Coast to Wilderness is a short, single-night, two-day tour that takes you from your hotel in Hikkaduwa, to the untouched wilderness of Udawalawe National Park. Experience two half-day safaris, one during the day, and one in the evening. Udawalawe National Park is known for its many herds of wild elephants that congregate and gather in the masses to bask around the many cool springs and natural lakes the park consists of. Catch a glimpse of other animal species such as Water Buffalo, Wild boar, Spotted Deer, Sambur Deer, Jackal, Samber, Black-naped hare, mongooses, bandicoots, foxes, and the endemic Toque Macaque and Gray Langers.

Day 1 Hikkaduwa > Udawalawe

Your first stop would be the Lakpura LLC office which you can enter free of charge and from there on you will head to Hikkaduwa which is along the Southern coat of Sri Lanka. Day one will allow you to experience a three hour evening safari at the Udawalawe National Park. Known for the many herds of the Sri Lankan elephant who come to relax along the banks of the Udawalawe Reservoir. You will also catch sight of other rare birds, reptiles
and mammals.

Visit Udawalawe National Park

Later visit the Udawalawe National Park to catch sight of the famous Sri Lankan Elephant. See the herds relax and play in the cool waters of the Udawalawe Reservoir. Catch sight of many other endemic mammals, reptiles, birds and butterflies that also call the park home.

Day 2 Udawalawe > Hikkaduwa

The second day, you will be experiencing a three hour morning safari where you will enjoy different view of the park. Your next
stop is the Weherahena Buddhist Temple which is a well known temple that is located in Matara. This holy place is known as the first tunnel temple while there is also a 130 ft statue of Lord Buddha in its premises. There are many wall murals that are found within the walls of the tunnel that offer you a sense of calmness. After this visit you will return to Hikkaduwa to end your tour.

Weherahena Buddhist Temple

Weherahena Poorwarama Raja Maha Viharaya is situated in the Matara District of Sri Lanka, about 6 kilometers off the Matara town. This rather unique temple is known as the first tunnel temple in the world. The temple hosts a massive 130-ft Buddha image that was built following the Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa eras and also consists of all main features of a Buddhist temple- the pagoda, a sacred bo-tree and Samadhi Buddha statue. The walls of the temple are adorned with with Buddha murals. According to the historical records, the tunnel temple paintings narrate the Jātaka tales (legends) of Ummagga Jathaka and Umandawa.
