Location: Minneriya is located 201km away from Colombo in the North-central province of Sri Lanka.
Minneriya town: Minneriya is a small town located 6km east of the village of Habarana, on the road to the World Heritage Site of Polonnaruwa.
Minneriya Transportation: Habarana, a transportation hub of Cultural triangle studded with high end eco-oriented resorts is located 6km west of Minneriya.
Minneriya National Park: The ancient Minneriya rainwater reservoir encompassed in the Minneriya National Park is home to hoards of elephants. Among the other mammals in the park are sambar, spotted deer, sloth bears and leopards.Minneriya National Park forms an area of elephant corridor connecting Kaudulla National Park and Wasgamuwa National Park. During July to October, large hoards of elephants gather at Minneriya reservoir when water reservoirs in the surrounding areas have dried up.
About Polonnaruwa District
Polonnaruwa is the 2nd largest city in north central province in Sri Lanka.
