NHRC Seated Buddha Statue - Pankuliya
NHRC Seated Buddha Statue - Pankuliya
(SKU: LSB100C792) It is seen while the Buddha is seated in the Virasana position, which conveys an expression of Dhamma-preaching or teaching. The statue has both of its hands raised. The argumentative gesture, known as the Vitarka Mudra, is used with the right hand, whereas the Katakahastha Mudra (ring hand) is made with the left hand. The usnisha that can be seen on the crown of the head of the Pankuliya Buddha is significantly larger than the usnisha that can be found on Buddha statues that date back to the sixth century A.D. It's possible that a siraspatha (the flame of knowledge) was attached to the top of the usnisha using the hole that's there. There are claims that the craftsmanship of this monument is on par with that of the Toluvila statue and the Samadhi statue.
