Location:

Jetwing Kanduruketha is located in the charming and peaceful village setting of Wellawaya which is about 4 1/2 - 5 hours away from Colombo. Spread over 60 acres of land consisting of paddy fields, fresh water streams and forests, this is an eco friendly retreat located about 218 km east of the capital of Colombo. The town area of Wellawaya is located about 3 1/2 km away from the retreat while the main bus station is about 2 1/2 km away. Buses run on a regular basis from the South, East and Central parts of the island while airport taxis can be arranged through the high level road and then through Avissawella, Ratnapura and finally Wellawaya. The town is located at a major transportation junction which takes travellers to the South and East.

Claimed as Sri Lanka's first major agro-tourism based project, Jetwing Kanduruketha exudes simplistic elegance inspired by traditional Kandyan designs. There are 25 private dwellings which are spread across the land area while they have been crafted using wood and bamboo in order to maximize natural ventilation. Each chalet is surrounded by paddy fields while the open plan layout offers a mix of outdoor and indoor living spaces. With luxurious features, each chalet comprises of a king sized bed with comfortable bedding, a writing table, en-suite bathroom with hot and cold water facilities, shower enclosure, fan, personalized butler services, mini bar, tea/coffee making facility, electronic safe, bottled water, 2 bicycles, hair dryer, umbrella, torch, bathrobes and slippers, iron and ironing board, telephone with IDD facilities, electric power and free Wi-Fi.

Excursions:

Guests at Jetwing Kanduruketha can enjoy hands-on experience of everyday life of a traditional farming village. You can enjoy a 2km walk through paddy fields and various farmlands to a rural village home where you are invited to share an "Ambula" which is a traditional farmers lunch. You will also be able to get some insight on how the meal is prepared. You can also enjoy the "Kamatha" - dinner by candle light and also witness the celebrations during paddy farming and harvesting. Since the property is surrounded by abundant foliage it is also a habitat for a number of endemic birds making it ideal for bird watching and nature treks. An excursion can be organized covering a distance of approximately 80km for about 5 hours where you will be able to witness a number of famous sites in the island including Buduruwagala Temple, Yugadanawa Temple, the Maligawila Site which is home to the 11 metre tall limestone Buddha statue and also the Biso Kotuwa Complex. For the more adventurous traveller, a day trek to the Poonagala Mountains with an overnight camping experience can be organized. Other excursions include a bicycle ride to the Handapanagala Tank well known for its elephant gatherings, Ella and Badulla.
