The largest city in the Southern part of Sri Lanka, Galle is a coastal town that was occupied by the Portuguese and Dutch from the 16th - 18th century. The city is popularly known for the Galle Fort which is a World Heritage Site and also the largest remaining fort in Asia built by Europeans.
