Welpenela Leaves are mainly used in Sri Lanka for its medicinal purposes and has been long used as herbal porridges (kanda) which people mainly consume in the morning or mixed into herbal teas. The porridge usually consists of Welpenela, rice, coconut milk and other herbs and some spices. It contains phytochemical groups and phenolic compounds as well as flavonoids resulting in many medicinal values. The leaves contain antioxidant and antibacterial properties . Its dehydrated form is ideal to give it a longer shelf life while offering you the same values. You have to simply immerse them in water or boil accordingly to prepare your desired concoction or porridge.
Welpenela is used to treat Dysentery, Rheumatoid, back pains, arthritis and hernia conditions in Ayurvedic medicinal practices.
