Shawlands Tea Estate
Shawlands estate is found on the southern slopes of Madulsima hill range, within the altitude range of 792 m to 1,173 m above the mean sea level and produces teas categorized under Uva medium tea of Sri Lanka.
Shawlands Tea is a Pure Ceylon Tea. These relatively long, unbroken leaf of light brown colour with a strong spicy pepper-like aroma. As a result, it makes a bright red-brown cup of tea full of brisk and dynamic flavor. Loaded with tones of citrus, cinnamon, mint and frozen rose hip, it gives a long citrus-like astringent after taste.
This region is best known for its uniqueness in climate that does something astounding to the tea plants. Warm days and cold nights cause a disruption to the tea plant’s natural process of photosynthesis. As a result, the chemical structure of the plants experience a natural alteration. This abnormal phenomenon gives teas from Uva region their distinctive natural minty/menthol flavour. Thereby making Uva teas to be generally highly sought after by tea connoisseurs all over the world.
