The primary force behind “Tropical Modernism” and one of the most influential Asian architects of his generation, the late Deshamanya Geoffrey Manning Bawa’s legacy lives on. Highlighting wide open spaces and more ventilation, Bawa’s main focus was on local resources and materials that offer cooling factors.

Born in Sri Lanka and worked in many countries, Bawa’s architecture is at one with the land and water with indoor and outdoor areas blending seamlessly together. Mainly influenced by traditional Sri Lankan architecture, culture and its heritage as well as a bit of Colonialism, he was not a fan of regionalism.

Mr. Bawa’s work is mainly found in Sri Lanka while there are a few more found in other countries such as India, Japan, Mauritius, Indonesia, Pakistan, Singapore, Egypt and Fiji. His work consists of designing houses, clubs, hotels, schools, office spaces and government owned buildings. If you are a traveller interested in the form of true architectural elegance then we urge you to visit Sri Lanka. We offer you a trip where you can indulge and experience some of the most iconic Bawa designs of all time.
